Penguin Pair Camps Out at Sushi Shop, Refuses to Leave
Penguin Break-In at New Zealand Sushi Shop
A pair of penguins recently caused a stir in New Zealand when they broke into a sushi shop. The birds seemed to think they had found the perfect home - warm, cozy, and full of fresh fish.
Not Taking No for an Answer
When shop owner Long Lin discovered the feathered intruders, he knew they couldn't stay. The shop was in a busy area that wasn't safe for wildlife. He called for help right away.
The Wellington Police and Department of Conservation came quickly. They checked the penguins' health and returned them to the harbor nearby.
But these penguins weren't giving up that easily.
Return of the Penguins
The very next morning, the stubborn pair was back! This time they huddled together under part of the shop's exterior.
Long had to lure them inside with a piece of salmon to get them away from the busy public area. Once again, he called for help.
A Happy Ending
The wildlife officials took action. This time, they set up a special nesting box by the water just for the penguin couple.
The new home must have met their standards. The penguins settled into their custom nesting box and stayed there throughout nesting season, safe and sound by the water where they belong.
The determined birds finally found their perfect home - not in a sushi shop, but in a safe spot created just for them.
