Meet Mouse: The Kitten Who Became Bookstore Manager on Day One
From Birth to Boss: Mouse's Incredible Journey
A special kitten in Pennsylvania started his career the moment he entered the world. Mouse the cat became a professional bookstore manager on his first day of life, and he continues to excel in his role at Cupboard Maker Books.
The Early Days of a Natural Leader
Mouse was born in the bookstore during the 2020 lockdowns. The store owners had rescued his mother from beside a busy road and given her shelter. While most newborn kittens focus on basic skills, Mouse showed management potential from his very first steps.
As his brothers and sisters played and explored like typical kittens, Mouse was busy with more important tasks. He conducted his first employee reviews, posed for official staff photos, and even started reviewing books. The store owners noticed his talents and offered him a permanent position.
Mouse's Feline Management Team
Today, Mouse leads a team of fellow cats at the bookstore. His staff includes Odin, who was rescued from a dumpster and now enjoys a fancy lifestyle, and Annika, who serves as the store's feline author.
Daily Duties of a Professional Cat Manager
Mouse has many important responsibilities in his role. He greets customers as they enter the store and performs hourly inspections throughout the building. He also supervises book clubs and trains humans to turn on water faucets for the cats' toys.
A Cat-Friendly Workplace
Cupboard Maker Books is designed with its feline employees in mind. The space features custom catwalks and climbing areas, creating the perfect open-concept office for Mouse and his team. This cat-friendly environment helps them perform their duties with ease.
Beyond Management: Mouse's Bigger Mission
Beyond running daily operations, Mouse and the bookstore serve a greater purpose. The store regularly fosters one or two cats and has helped more than 250 felines find permanent homes.
While Mouse stayed at the bookstore, his siblings were adopted into loving families. One of his brothers even went to a forever home together with their mother.
Thanks to Manager Mouse's leadership skills, the bookstore continues to be both a successful business and a safe haven for cats in need of homes.
