From Childhood Climber to Cat Hero: One Man's Unique Rescue Mission
How a Tree Climber Became New Jersey's Top Cat Rescuer
Steven Murrow grew up climbing the tree in his yard as a child. Little did he know this simple joy would turn into both a career and a mission to help cats in need.
Turning Childhood Fun into a Business
As an adult, Steven found a way to keep his childhood passion alive. He started Tesla Tree Service, a professional tree care business in New Jersey. His typical workday involves removing fallen trees or broken branches that pose safety risks.
An Unexpected Rescue Call
A few years ago, Steven received an unusual request. Someone in his town needed help rescuing a cat stuck in a tree for five days. The local fire department had already tried to help but couldn't reach the cat, which was perched about a hundred feet above ground.
With his climbing expertise, Steven took on the challenge. He scaled the tree and successfully brought the stranded feline back down to safety.
A Mission Beyond Business
That first rescue was a turning point. Steven felt a special connection to this kind of work. In that moment, he knew he needed to keep helping cats in similar situations.
Since that day, he has rescued over 100 cats from trees throughout New Jersey. The cat rescues have become the most fulfilling part of his work.
Helping Without a Price Tag
What makes Steven's story even more special is his approach to these rescues. Despite running a business, he has never charged for rescuing a cat from a tree. And he never plans to start charging.
Steven believes that helping when you can is simply the right thing to do. His free rescue service shows how skills from both childhood play and professional work can be used to make a meaningful difference in unexpected ways.
His story reminds us that sometimes our childhood joys can lead to adult purposes we never imagined - like becoming a hero to cats and their worried owners across New Jersey.
