Meet the Professional Cat Staff Running a Kansas Bookstore
The Purr-fessional Management Team
There's a highly professional cat staff running a cat lounge bookstore combo in Kansas. They take both books and their jobs helping other cats find homes very seriously. The leadership team at The Literary Cat Co. includes Hank, the Regional Manager; Scarlett O'Hara, Assistant to the Regional Manager; and Mike Meowski, Assistant to the Assistant to the Regional Manager.
Hank was found as an abandoned newborn under a car. He worked his way up the corporate ladder while being bottle-fed every two hours by the store's owner.
Scarlett O'Hara, a polydactyl cat with extra toes, excels at her position. She's especially good when treats are involved.
And Mike Meowski, a one-eyed cat, oversees operations from his favorite corner office. The store owner promised to care for Mike when others had given up hope for his future.
The Human Behind the Cat Business
All three cats are employed thanks to their human colleague, Jennifer Mowdy. Jennifer is a former teacher who took a big leap in November 2023. She decided to combine her passions for literature, education, and animal rescue into one business.
Helping Cats Find Forever Homes
While Hank, Scarlett, and Mike are the permanent feline staff, adoptable temporary "catployees" are always roaming the store. They're just waiting to meet their new families.
Since opening, The Literary Cat Co. has helped 31 rescue cats find their forever homes. They focus on recruiting shy, older, and overlooked cats. These cats get the chance to develop their social skills in a cozy place filled with vintage furniture, custom cat ramps, and cubbies.
A Special Mission
The Literary Cat Co. isn't just a bookstore with cats. It's a place with a mission to help the cats that might be ignored elsewhere. The mix of books and felines creates a warm space where both cats and humans can feel at home.
The story of this cat-run business shows how passion can create something special. Jennifer's love for books and cats has built a place that changes lives - both human and feline.
