Backyard Visitor: The 'Coyote' That Was Actually a Dog in Need
The Mysterious Visitor
When Meredith first spotted an animal lying on their outdoor couch, she thought it was a coyote. But something seemed different. The more she watched, the more she noticed that its movements looked much more like a dog's than a wild animal's.
Meredith tried to approach the animal, but it was very scared and ran away right away. She wasn't ready to give up, though.
Not a Coyote After All
Wanting to find out if the animal belonged to someone, Meredith posted a photo on social media. Nobody recognized the animal, and most people told her it was probably just a coyote passing through.
But Meredith felt certain this was actually a dog that needed help. She couldn't ignore an animal in need.
Building Trust Day by Day
Something special was happening. The dog kept coming back to Meredith's yard every single day. She would spend the night there, as if she knew this was where she belonged.
This pattern continued for about a week. During this time, Meredith slowly worked on gaining the dog's trust. As the days passed, it became very clear that their visitor wasn't a wild coyote at all. She was actually a very sweet but skinny healer mix dog.
Finding Luna's Forever Home
As soon as she could, Meredith took the dog to the Humane Society to check if she had a microchip. She didn't. The Humane Society explained they needed to hold the dog for three days in case an owner came looking for her.
Meredith and her family visited every day during that waiting period. They had already fallen in love with this special dog.
After three days with no one claiming her, Meredith's family happily adopted her. They named her Luna.
A Happy Ending
Today, Luna is happy and healthy in her cozy new home. She's living with the family she seemed to choose for herself when she kept returning to their yard day after day.
What started as a case of mistaken identity - a "coyote" on the couch - turned into a beautiful story of rescue and finding a forever home. Luna will never go hungry or spend cold nights outside again, thanks to a family who cared enough to look closer and see her for who she really was: a sweet dog in need of love.
