Escape Artist Dog Chooses Nursing Home as Forever Home

Meet Scout, the determined dog who escaped from a shelter three times to visit the same nursing home. The staff finally got the message and adopted him. Now he's their beloved Resident of the Month!

The Great Escape Artist

Scout was first found as a stray in Michigan. After being taken to a local shelter, he quickly showed everyone his special talent - escaping. One of his first nights at the shelter, Scout managed to climb over several tall fences and make his journey to freedom.

A Dog with a Destination

But Scout wasn't just running away. He had a plan. After his daring escape, he traveled about a quarter mile down the street to Meadow Brook Care Facility, a nursing home. Scout didn't just walk by - he strolled right through the automatic doors and made himself comfortable on a couch in the lobby.

Staff found him and returned him to the shelter. But Scout was determined. The very next night, he escaped again and went back to the exact same couch at the nursing home.

Third Time's the Charm

When Scout pulled off his escape trick a third time and returned to his favorite spot at Meadow Brook, the nursing home staff realized something special was happening. An administrator at the facility decided this was meant to be. They officially adopted Scout as their resident dog.

Finding His Purpose

Scout has become such a beloved member of the Meadow Brook community that he was named Resident of the Month. He seems to have found his true calling - bringing joy and comfort to the elderly residents of the nursing home.

Many people living in nursing homes have had to leave their pets behind when moving into care facilities. Having Scout around gives them a sense of comfort and makes the place feel more like home.

A Growing Family

Scout's success has even paved the way for another four-legged friend. The facility recently welcomed Willow, a rescued cat, as their second animal resident.

Together, Scout and Willow bring warmth and companionship to the residents of Meadow Brook. The nursing home has become not just a place where Scout escaped to, but a true forever home where he belongs.
