The 'Coyote' in the Backyard: How Luna Found Her Forever Home
Mysterious Visitor on the Couch
Meredith was surprised to find what looked like a coyote lying on her outdoor couch. Most people would be scared, but something about the animal made Meredith look closer. The more she watched, the more she noticed the animal's movements were more like a dog than a wild coyote.
When Meredith tried to approach the animal, it ran away quickly. She could tell it was very nervous. Hoping to find its owner, Meredith posted a photo on social media. Nobody recognized the animal, and most people told her it was probably just a coyote passing through.
Building Trust Day by Day
But Meredith had a strong feeling this was actually a dog that needed help. She couldn't ignore an animal in need, so she kept watching for its return.
Sure enough, the animal came back. It seemed drawn to this particular backyard. For about a week, the visitor returned every night to sleep in the yard. During this time, Meredith worked slowly to gain the animal's trust.
As the days passed, it became clear that their visitor wasn't a coyote at all. It was an extremely sweet but very skinny heeler mix dog that needed care and food.
Finding a Forever Home
As soon as Meredith could get close enough, she took the dog to the Humane Society. They checked for a microchip but didn't find one. Following their rules, the Humane Society had to keep the dog for three days to give any possible owner a chance to claim her.
Meredith and her family visited the dog each of those three days. They had already formed a bond with this special visitor and hoped no one would claim her.
When the waiting period ended and no one had come forward, Meredith's family happily adopted the dog themselves. They named her Luna.
Luna's Happy Ending
Now Luna is healthy and happy in her forever home. She has food, comfort, and a loving family. What makes this story even more special is that Luna seemed to choose her family herself by returning to their yard night after night.
From a nervous, hungry dog mistaken for a coyote to a beloved family pet, Luna's journey shows how a little patience and kindness can change an animal's life completely.
