Marathon Runner Adopts Stray Puppy After Carrying Her 19 Miles to Finish Line

Seven miles into a marathon in Thailand, runner Kimjira spotted a lone puppy. Instead of leaving it behind, she carried it for the remaining 19 miles. Now the pup has a name, a home, and a family in Bangkok.

From Marathon to Forever Home: A Runner's Unexpected Adoption Story

Sometimes the best things happen when we least expect them. This was certainly true for Kimjira, a dedicated runner who found herself with much more than a medal at the end of the Chom Bang marathon in Thailand.

An Unexpected Running Partner

Kimjira was seven miles into the marathon when she spotted something that made her stop in her tracks - a small puppy sitting alone on the side of the road. The area was remote with no houses nearby, and there was no mother dog in sight.

As a dog lover, Kimjira couldn't bear the thought of leaving the vulnerable puppy behind. She knew she had to make sure the little one was safe. Without hesitation, she paused her race, scooped up the puppy, and decided to continue.

19 Miles Together

What makes this story truly remarkable is what happened next. Rather than dropping out of the race, Kimjira carried her new furry friend for the remaining 19 miles of the marathon. Picture that - running nearly 20 miles while cradling a puppy in your arms!

The pair crossed the finish line together, creating a bond that would last far beyond race day. Kimjira took the puppy home with her, determined to find its owner.

Finding a Forever Home

For several weeks, Kimjira searched for anyone who might be missing the puppy. When no owner came forward, she made the decision that perhaps felt inevitable from the moment they met - she would welcome the puppy into her own family.

She named the dog Cheonbung, after the marathon and location where their paths crossed. It was the perfect tribute to their unique beginning.

A New Life in Bangkok

Cheonbung fit right in with Kimjira's other dogs at their home in Bangkok. The puppy even joined Kimjira at running events for a while, until she grew too heavy to carry during races.

These days, Cheonbung enjoys a happy life with her adopted family. She spends her time hanging out at home and going on walks with the whole dog pack around Bangkok.

What started as a simple act of kindness during a marathon turned into a lifelong connection between runner and pup - proving that sometimes the greatest rewards come when we pause our own race to help others.
