Heroic Rescue Dog Leads Police Officer to Her Injured Owner
Rescue Dog Refuses to Get in Police Car - For Good Reason
A rescue dog named Gita recently made a brave decision that saved her owner's life. When Deputy Colton Wright spotted the 13-year-old dog standing alone in the middle of a remote Washington road, he tried to help. But Gita had other plans.
A Dog with a Mission
Deputy Wright tried everything to get Gita to safety. He attempted to guide her into his police car and even tried to pick her up. But the determined dog wouldn't budge.
Instead, Gita kept looking at the deputy and then turning her head in the other direction. It was as if she wanted him to follow her somewhere. When she finally took off running, Deputy Wright decided to follow her lead.
Gita kept looking back during their journey, making sure the deputy was keeping up with her. She led him down an unmarked path that eventually brought them to a small summer cabin.
A Life-Saving Discovery
At the cabin, they found Gita's 84-year-old owner, Keith, lying on the ground calling for help. Keith had fallen and injured his hip six and a half hours earlier while taking Gita out for a walk.
"Your dog was down by the road, got my attention, got me up here. Thank you. She's my best friend," Deputy Wright told Keith upon finding him.
For most of those long hours, Gita had stayed by Keith's side, trying to comfort him. As time passed and Keith began to lose hope, he asked Gita to go find help. He thought he was just talking to himself in a moment of desperation.
A Happy Ending
To Keith's surprise, Gita seemed to completely understand his request. She took off with a clear mission - to bring back help for her beloved owner.
Thanks to Gita's intelligence and determination, Keith was rushed to the hospital in time for successful surgery on his injured hip. Throughout Keith's recovery period, Gita was allowed to visit him regularly.
Keith has never been more thankful for his best friend. This amazing rescue dog proved that sometimes animals understand much more than we give them credit for - especially when it comes to helping those they love.
