Man Adopts Senior Dogs to Give Them Their Best Final Years
The Man Who Gives Senior Dogs a Second Chance
Steve Greig shares his home with up to 10 senior dogs at once. But that's not all - his animal family also includes a pig named Bikini and a chicken named Betty. Steve has made it his mission to rescue older dogs that others might pass by.
Finding Purpose Through Loss
This journey began after Steve lost his beloved dog Wolfgang in 2012. The unexpected death hit him hard. To honor Wolfgang's memory, Steve decided to save another life. He visited his local animal shelter with a specific request - he wanted their oldest dog.
That's how Eeyore, a 12-year-old Chihuahua with four bad knees and a heart murmur, found his forever home. Steve quickly realized how much joy came from watching Eeyore thrive under his care. This experience sparked something in Steve, inspiring him to open his home to more senior dogs who might otherwise be overlooked.
A Growing Pack of Golden-Aged Pups
Steve originally planned to limit himself to nine dogs. However, he now cares for 10 senior canines. His pack includes 12-year-old Onion the Chihuahua, 18-year-old Loretta, and 14-year-old Fernando.
Age doesn't stop these dogs from living their best lives. Steve frequently takes the entire pack on road trips, giving them plenty of adventures in their golden years. These outings bring joy to both the dogs and their devoted human.
More Than Just Charity
Steve emphasizes that adopting senior dogs isn't just an act of kindness. These older dogs make wonderful companions. They come with established personalities and often require less training than puppies.
For Steve, watching his senior pack enjoy their final years brings endless rewards. Each wagging tail and happy bark confirms that he's made the right choice in giving these overlooked animals the loving home they deserve.
The happiness these senior dogs experience in their twilight years proves that it's never too late for a second chance at a wonderful life.
