Dog Escapes Shelter Three Times to Find His Forever Home at Nursing Facility

After escaping a shelter three times to visit the same nursing home, this persistent pup was finally adopted by the place he chose. Now he's even won Resident of the Month and helps comfort seniors who miss their pets.

The Great Escape Artist

Scout was first brought to a Michigan shelter as a stray dog. The staff quickly learned he had a special talent - he could escape from just about anywhere. But Scout wasn't running away to find freedom. He was running toward something specific.

A Clear Destination

During one of his first nights at the shelter, Scout made his great escape. He scaled multiple tall fences in the area and traveled about a quarter mile down the street. His destination? The Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility, a local nursing home.

Scout didn't just hang around outside. He walked right through the automatic doors and made himself comfortable on a couch in the lobby. A nurse found him there, relaxed as could be, and returned him to the shelter.

Not Just a Coincidence

The next night, Scout did the exact same thing. He escaped from the shelter, returned to the nursing home, and curled up on the same couch. A few nights later, it happened yet again - for the third time.

Finding His Forever Home

After the third escape, an administrator at Meadow Brook decided that Scout was meant to be there. The nursing home officially adopted him as their resident dog.

Scout has become such a beloved part of the Meadow Brook community that he was even named Resident of the Month - a special honor that shows just how much he means to everyone there.

A Growing Family

Recently, Scout helped welcome another four-legged friend to the facility. Willow, a rescued cat, joined the Meadow Brook family as their second animal resident.

Together, Scout and Willow provide something special for the nursing home residents. Many people living at Meadow Brook had to leave their own pets behind when they moved in. Scout and Willow give them a sense of comfort and make the facility feel more like home.

Scout's persistence in finding the place where he belonged shows that sometimes animals know exactly what they need - and they'll go to great lengths to find it.
