Tiny Raccoon 'Bub' Gets Second Chance After Porch Rescue

After a storm, a Massachusetts homeowner discovered a tiny, soaked baby raccoon standing on their porch. The orphaned two-month-old, now named Bub, is recovering at a wildlife center after his dramatic rescue.

Unexpected Visitor After the Storm

A Massachusetts homeowner found a surprise on their porch after a rainstorm. There stood a tiny baby raccoon - soaked, shivering, and balancing on two feet. The little creature looked like he had experienced quite a rough night.

Too Long Alone

The homeowner believed the baby raccoon had been there throughout the night. This was far too long for such a young animal to be alone, especially in cold and wet weather conditions. Concerned for the animal's safety, the homeowner called for professional help.

Search for Family

Sarah, an animal control officer, arrived at the scene and began searching the surrounding area. She looked carefully for any signs of the raccoon's mother. After a thorough search, it became clear that this baby had unfortunately been orphaned and left to fend for himself.

Immediate Response

Sarah wrapped the shivering baby in a warm towel and placed him safely in a crate. She then contacted the Leyden Center for Wildlife Rehabilitation. Even though the center was already at full capacity with other animals, the staff immediately agreed to take in the orphaned raccoon.

Meet Bub

The rehabilitation center staff named the baby raccoon Bub. At approximately two months old, Bub wouldn't have survived much longer on his own in the wild. He was rescued just in time. Despite suffering from hypothermia when found, Bub was otherwise healthy. He simply needed food, warmth, and proper care to recover.

Road to Recovery

Bub is now recovering well at the Leyden Center for Wildlife Rehabilitation. The staff will continue caring for him until he grows old enough and strong enough to be safely returned to the wild. Thanks to the alert homeowner and quick response from wildlife professionals, this tiny raccoon has been given a second chance at life.
