From Streets to Sanctuary: Snoop Dogg the Pig Finds Hope

When a young pig was found wandering Philadelphia's streets alone, nobody expected his journey would involve a baseball team, an office job, and a sanctuary that normally doesn't rescue pigs.

Rescued from Philadelphia Streets

Snoop Dogg needed help. Not the famous rapper, but a young pig found wandering alone through the streets of Philadelphia. When animal care and control found him, he was in rough shape. At just six months old, Snoop suffered from mange, an eye infection, and showed signs that he had never received proper care.

A Lucky Meeting

While at the animal control facility, Snoop had a stroke of luck. Jane Bissell was there picking up rescue dogs for her sanctuary at Haafsville, a facility for cats and dogs. Jane knew that Snoop would do better at a pig rescue where staff had special training to meet his needs. She called several pig rescues, but found they were all full.

Facing limited options, Jane made a big decision. Even though she doesn't normally care for pigs, she brought Snoop back to her sanctuary to foster him until he could find his forever home.

Community Support Steps Up

Snoop's story caught attention beyond the sanctuary walls. When a Pennsylvania minor league baseball team called the Iron Pigs heard about Snoop, they jumped into action. The team donated $750 to cover his medical bills, helping ensure he got the treatment he needed.

Office Pig on the Mend

Thanks to proper care and treatment, Snoop has made a full recovery. He's now thriving as Jane's "office pig" at the sanctuary. His personality has blossomed during his time there.

Though cute and small now, Snoop won't stay tiny forever. He will likely grow to around 100 pounds. During his time at the sanctuary, he's learned important skills. He's been harness trained and enjoys taking long walks. His ideal home would be indoors with access to a large fenced yard where he can play and explore.

Looking Toward the Future

Snoop's story is moving into its next chapter. The sanctuary is now reviewing adoption applications for him. With luck, this once-homeless pig will have a permanent loving home in time for the holidays.

The sanctuary at Haafsville continues to share updates about Snoop and their other rescue animals as they await their forever homes.
